The Senior ICT Associate contributes to continuous improvement across the full automation lifecycle including assessment, design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance and continuous improvement of automation solutions. The role supports multiple service lines and applies various automation techniques including scripting, RPA, workflow orchestration, low-code automation and system integration, leveraging AI-enabled capabilities within UNICEF's enterprise platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and qualify candidate processes for automation including feasibility, effort, risk and expected benefit and recommend the most appropriate solution approach.
  • Design, develop, test and deploy automation solutions based on documented business requirements using scripting, RPA, workflow orchestration, low-code platforms or API-based integration with enterprise systems.
  • Leverage AI-enabled capabilities embedded in UNICEF’s enterprise platforms to enhance automations within architecture, security and governance frameworks.
  • Modernize and migrate existing automations built on legacy tooling toward standardized, supportable and cloud-aligned solutions.
  • Create and maintain complete and accurate technical and operational documentation in the automation library ensuring traceability from business requirement to deployed solution.
  • Participate in functional and user-acceptance testing; support process re-engineering, change management and stakeholder communication.
  • Provide ongoing support for the production automation estate including monitoring, defect resolution, software upgrades, performance tuning and bot/solution administration; act as Level 3 support.
  • Perform peer review of automations and automated procedures to ensure compliance with internal-control, security and audit requirements.
  • Mentor and coach early adopters and citizen developers in business units, building awareness of automation pre-assessment and fundamentals of solution development.
  • Perform daily maintenance of automations in the production environment and manage incidents through to resolution.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education (high-school diploma) is the minimum requirement.
  • University-level studies or specialized training in systems engineering, computer science, programming or automation, or equivalent, is an asset.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required for candidates who have completed secondary education.
  • A completed BA degree from an accredited institution qualifies as 3 years’ experience and will be counted towards the minimum work experience requirement.
  • Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience is required for candidates holding bachelor’s degree in relevant fields.
  • Master’s degree will be considered with an additional two years of relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in process automation and/or software development is required.
  • Hands-on programming and scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, SQL and VBA (or similar) are required; experience with one or more RPA platforms is required or a strong asset.
  • Experience with low-code automation platforms – in particular Microsoft Power Platform / Power Automate – and familiarity with cloud automation on Microsoft Azure are an asset.
  • Experience integrating automations with enterprise systems (e.g., SAP ERP, ServiceNow) through APIs or equivalent is an asset.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled automation features delivered through enterprise platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ServiceNow NowAssist) is an asset.
  • Experience maintaining or modernizing legacy automation estates (e.g., AutoIt, VBA, custom scripts) is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio); working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP is an asset.
  • Completed secondary education (i.e. high school diploma).
  • University level degree in business administration and public administration is an asset.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of an additional UN Language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered or the local language of the duty station is an asset.
  • Applicants must be nationals of Hungary or EU/Schengen countries OR in the possession of a valid long-term Hungarian residence and work permits.
  • Temporary and/or sponsored visas are not accepted.
  • UNICEF GSSC does not facilitate MFA accreditation for locally recruited staff, applicants must be holders of acceptable permits already at the time of application.
  • Applicants with non-EU citizenship must attach copies of their valid Hungarian work permits, otherwise their applications will not be considered.
