The United Nations Department of Global Communication (DGC) offers an internship at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City. The intern will assist in communications and advocacy functions, including developing communication plans, promoting SDG initiatives, monitoring misinformation, and supporting inter-agency initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of a communications plan for the UN Mexico Results Report targeting key audiences through various public information products.
  • Contribute to the dissemination and promotion of the SDG Book Club, Mexico Chapter, collaborating with key stakeholders.
  • Support the design and implementation of a plan to promote Information Integrity in Mexico aligned with UN priorities.
  • Assist in monitoring misinformation trends in Mexico, including potential reputational risks for the United Nations.
  • Contribute to inter-agency initiatives aimed at combating misinformation and hate speech, including support to Mexico’s signing of the Declaration on Information Integrity on Climate Change and development of communications proposals linked to FIFA World Cup 2026.
  • Support creation and maintenance of a database of communities of practice related to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and Information Integrity.
  • Assist in conducting a needs assessment of the United Nations Communications Group capacities to implement the UN Results Report and Information Integrity activities.
  • Support development of communication tools, training materials, and mechanisms to enhance cohesive and effective UN system-wide communication.
  • Assist in creation of public information content for web, social media, media outlets aligned with UN International Days, flagship reports, and country priorities.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • No professional work experience required but field of study closely related to the internship is required.
  • Good working knowledge of standard office software applications, particularly MS Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Good working knowledge of multimedia production tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere), CapCut, Canva, or related applications.
  • Ability to draft and edit news articles, press releases, and/or engaging social media content.
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required.
  • Fluency in English is desirable.
