The Clinic Coordinator (Nurse) at UNDP in Copenhagen is responsible for providing primary clinical care and occupational health services to UN personnel and their dependents. The role involves clinical duties such as assisting the UN Physician, performing diagnostic tests, coordinating referrals, administering vaccinations, and maintaining medical records, as well as administrative duties including managing clinic supplies and coordinating clinic personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Attend the UN Clinic and assist the UN Physician in the performance of his/her duties.
  • Perform diagnostic and screening tests such as ECG, laboratory (blood and urine), and other tests as required.
  • Facilitate referral and coordinate follow up to the UN Medical Doctor or to an outside physician, as required.
  • Coordinate referral of general preventative activities depending on patient’s risk factors.
  • Liaise with Danish health authorities and external laboratories as required.
  • Ensure preparedness of staff travelling on missions or reassignments, including administration of vaccines and instructions on malaria prophylaxis.
  • Provide health education and health promotion programs.
  • Participate in work environment assessment and address occupational health issues.
  • Plan and organize preventive and promotional medical fairs.
  • Perform medical briefing for incoming staff and conduct first aid training.
  • Administer minor outpatient treatment and immunization/vaccination requirements.
  • Maintain records of patients' medical data including consultations and treatment with strict confidentiality.
  • Perform medication, injection, dressing, stitching, foreign body extraction as needed.
  • Maintain the UN Clinic in good order and keep inventory of medical supplies and equipment up-to-date.
  • Provide patients with certificates and medical reports as requested.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of other UN Clinic personnel.
  • Check equipment and supplies regularly and maintain them in working order.
  • Enter medical data of patients into registers, files, and electronic databases.
  • Process patient invoices including preparation and reconciliation of daily accounts.
  • Schedule consultations with the UN Physician for eligible staff and dependents.
  • Maintain a roster of available specialists for referrals and treatment.
  • Ensure proper and safe disposal of hazardous material and medical waste.
  • Identify and plan clinics’ material, supplies and equipment requirements and raise requisitions accordingly.
  • Liaise with Procurement to establish essential contracts.

Requirements

  • Registered Professional Nurse and first level degree from an accredited Baccalaureate Nursing Programme (University) or equivalent such as an accredited Diploma Programme (4 years).
  • Diploma recognized by the Danish health authorities to practice general medicine.
  • 5 years of continuous clinical experience in nursing preferably in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work with computer and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages.
  • Strong functional knowledge and skills as a medical practitioner.
  • Certificates in ECG, CPR or Basic Life Support and ACLS or equivalent emergency medical care is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant UN administrative policies and procedures is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in teams and effectively interact with medical personnel and staff of all organizations involved.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Tact and absolute respect of medical confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the Danish medical system desirable.
  • Experience in travel medicine is an asset.
  • Proficiency in the English and Danish languages.
