See your match score & applyThe Data Assistant will support the implementation of the work programme and portfolio of UN-Habitat in Brazil by assisting in data analysis, processing, and management to support sustainable urban development and public policy planning. The role involves working closely with operational and technical teams and supporting capacity-building activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the elaboration and calculation of variables, indicators, and other data and information.
- Extract, process and analyse data from public databases and statistics, including IBGE and other official sources, and present them in tables, charts, graphs and maps.
- Support the creation of georeferenced information.
- Revise all documents related to spatial data and information.
- Support capacity-building activities.
- Provide technical support to the collection, production, analysis, and management of data, information, and urban indicators.
- Support the drafting of analyses of the programme’s results from a territorial perspective to support public policy planning.
- Support studies and research on informal settlements and the programme territorial scope.
- Support monitoring, evaluation, and quality control of field collected data.
- Support the identification of programme risks.
- Organize and maintain structured, accessible information files.
- Support programme management activities to ensure deadlines, quality, and budget compliance.
- Document expert meetings, training events, and technical activities.
- Perform other tasks requested by the supervisor.
- Participate in missions as required.
- Complete all courses and training activities indicated by the supervisor.
- Ensure own security by complying with UN security mechanisms.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, Statistics or related fields is required, or additional three (3) years of relevant experience to the post, beyond the requirement.
- Postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Public Policy, Sociology, Political Science, Geography, Economics, Urban Studies, Statistics, or related fields is desirable.
- Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in urban-related project or programme management is required.
- Experience in data analysis, data visualization, reporting and processing for public policy is required.
- Experience in public policies in informal settlements is required.
- Experience in the Brazilian context is required.
- Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.
- Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and web search tools is required.
- Good command of GIS software (QGIS or ArcGIS) is required.
- Knowledge of R or Python is required.
- Experience with data visualization tools is desirable.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies is desirable.
- Experience with GitHub or GitLab is desirable.
- The consultant must complete the UNDSS security course BSAFE during the first month of employment.
- The consultant must be familiar with and comply with United Nations security mechanisms according to the Framework of Accountability for the United Nations Security Management System.
- Fluency in Portuguese is required.
- Working knowledge of English and Spanish is desirable.
