The internship positions are located in the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Division on International Trade and Commodities. The internship is unpaid, full-time, and may be conducted in-person or remotely. Interns will support communication, outreach, documentation, and analytical tasks related to services trade data and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings and prepare summary reports.
  • Support communication and outreach activities related to the work programme.
  • Provide assistance in the organization and servicing of webinars, round tables, seminars, etc.
  • Assist in providing inputs to documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects.
  • Draft inputs for technical papers and analytical studies relating to services trade data and services trade policy.
  • Assist in preparing inputs for presentations by members of the team.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • University degree must be in economics, statistics, international trade, trade law or a related area.
  • No working experience is required for this internship.
  • Should be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Knowledge of Excel is desirable; knowledge of Power BI, Stata, R is an advantage.
  • Fluency oral and written in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Interns must observe all applicable UN rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives.
  • Interns must provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship.
  • Interns must respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and not seek or accept instructions from any external authority.
  • Interns may not communicate any non-public information to external sources without authorization.
  • Interns must refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or the receiving department/office.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated; costs for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may require appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
  • Applicants who are children or siblings of a staff member are not eligible to apply for an internship at the United Nations.
  • Applicants otherwise related to a staff member may be engaged as interns provided they are not assigned to the same work unit or under direct/indirect supervision of such staff member.
