This internship position is located in the Division on International Trade and Commodities (DITC) within UNCTAD. The internship is unpaid, full-time, and may be conducted in-person or remotely, focusing on supporting fundraising and partnerships work under the supervision of the Senior Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of the DITC fundraising strategy and related outreach activities.
  • Conduct research and analysis on donor priorities, funding trends, calls for proposals and partnership opportunities.
  • Monitor and screen potential donors, including Member States, development banks, foundations, private sector partners and philanthropic organizations.
  • Contribute to the preparation, drafting and review of concept notes, project proposals, donor briefs and partnership documents.
  • Support the preparation of fundraising pitches, presentations and talking points for meetings with donors and partners.
  • Assist in organizing meetings with existing and prospective donors and partners.
  • Prepare meeting summaries, briefing notes and follow-up actions arising from donor and partner engagements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Division's fundraising tracker and donor database.
  • Perform other related duties as required for the final delivery of the Programme’s services.
  • Undertake on-the-job and other training activities (if available during the internship).
  • Observe all applicable rules, regulations, instructions, procedures and directives of the Organization.
  • Provide the receiving departments/offices with a copy of all materials prepared during the internship.
  • Respect the impartiality and independence required of the UN and the receiving department/office.
  • Refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on the UN or the receiving department/office and avoid activities incompatible with the aims and objectives of the UN.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Applicants must preferably pursue studies in communications, political science, economics or journalism.
  • No working experience is required for this internship.
  • University degree must be in communications, journalism, economics, development, law, political science or other social sciences deemed appropriate.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Fluency oral and written in English is required.
  • Should be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
