See your match score & applyThe Expert en Pêche, Pisciculture et Aquaculture provides remote technical support to UNOPS CAMCO teams on fisheries, aquaculture, and pisciculture projects. The role involves advising on project design, implementation, procurement requirements, technical evaluation, quality assurance, risk management, and sustainability of interventions in fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice on fishing, safety, handling, conservation, and processing equipment.
- Advise on aquaculture equipment including cages, tanks, pumps, aerators, and water quality equipment.
- Analyze quality of fish feed, fry, and aquaculture inputs.
- Identify risks related to quality, storage, transport, maintenance, biosecurity, and cold chain.
- Adapt equipment to beneficiary capacities and local usage conditions.
- Prepare or review technical specifications and TORs for fishing equipment, nets, engines, light boats, and safety equipment.
- Prepare or review specifications for isothermal boxes, coolers, scales, quality control kits, and small processing equipment.
- Prepare or review specifications for hatchery equipment, cages, tanks, pumps, aerators, and water quality equipment.
- Prepare or review specifications for fish feed, fry, and aquaculture inputs.
- Prepare or review specifications for training, extension, technical assistance, quality control, and beneficiary support services.
- Support procurement by market analysis and purchase planning.
- Prepare technical evaluation criteria.
- Review offers, technical sheets, catalogs, and compliance documents.
- Analyze nutritional sheets of feeds, quality certificates, and fry documents.
- Prepare acceptance criteria, checklists, technical reports, and compliance notes.
- Formulate technical recommendations for procurement processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in fisheries, aquaculture, pisciculture, fishery sciences, aquatic sciences, natural resource management, environment, agro-food, or rural development with at least 7 years of relevant professional experience.
- Master's degree or equivalent in the above fields with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience may be accepted instead of a bachelor's degree.
- At least 7 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor, or 5 years with a Master, in fisheries, pisciculture, aquaculture, or fishery/aquaculture value chains.
- 5 years of experience in preparation or revision of documents for procurement processes is required.
- Preferred academic or professional training related to fishing equipment, aquaculture inputs, fish feed, cold chain, fish product quality, fish processing, or sustainable aquatic resource management.
- Preferred experience with fishing equipment, aquaculture equipment, fish feed, fry, inputs, water quality, cold chain, or fish processing.
- Preferred experience in preparing technical specifications, terms of reference, evaluation criteria, market analyses, or technical reports.
- Strongly preferred 5 years of experience in projects funded by international donors, multilateral banks, or UN organizations.
- Experience in Central Africa, DRC, or fragile and logistically complex contexts is a strong asset.
- Good knowledge of fishing, aquaculture, and pisciculture equipment, materials, inputs, and feeds.
- Mastery of technical specifications for fishing equipment, safety equipment, aquaculture equipment, feeds, fry, and inputs.
- Good knowledge of fish feed quality criteria: nutritional composition, proteins, granulometry, conservation, packaging, storage, and traceability.
- Good knowledge of fry requirements: species, size, health status, survival rate, transport, acclimatization, and biosecurity.
- Ability to analyze equipment suitability with beneficiary needs, maintenance, spare parts, and operating costs.
- Knowledge of handling, conservation, hygiene, sanitary safety, cold chain, and post-capture loss reduction.
- Ability to evaluate technical offers, product sheets, catalogs, warranties, certificates, nutritional sheets, and compliance documents.
- Ability to contribute to TORs, evaluation criteria, technical reports, compliance notes, and project documents.
- Fluent in French (required).
- Fluent in English (desirable).
