The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the UN Women Country Director/ Head of Office and other high-ranking UN officials and visitors ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, and excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The role also includes vehicle maintenance, administrative support, and adherence to UN Women policies and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide reliable and secure driving services for UN Women officials, visitors, and staff.
- Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items to Government offices, Embassies, commercial establishments, and UN offices.
- Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangements when required.
- Verify that all passengers wear seatbelts at all times in the vehicle.
- Oversee and ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
- Adhere to relevant job specific guidelines and policies of UN Women such as vehicle management policy.
- Ensure all vehicles comply with Security and Safety standards established at the duty station.
- Drive responsibly to contribute to environmental sustainability and cost-saving.
- Maintain daily vehicle logs, mileage, gas consumption, oil change, servicing, greasing, repairs and oversee other drivers do the same.
- Prepare and maintain data of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Ensure all official vehicles are kept clean, washed and in good working condition.
- Make minor repairs and arrange for major repairs.
- Change oil, check tire tread depth and pressure, lights, indicators, wipers, horn, clutch and brakes regularly.
- Ensure vehicles comply with safety standards and timely inspection of warning indicators.
- Arrange and complete winterization of office vehicles when required.
- Maintain and ensure availability of all required documents and supplies including vehicle insurance, logs, office directory, maps, first aid kit, and spare parts.
- Assist office personnel in filing, photocopying and maintaining required records.
- Assist in mailing and distribution of publications and payments of bills as required.
- Organize shipments, customs clearance arrangements, preparation of documents for UN Women shipments, and follow-up actions.
- Provide administrative support to conferences, workshops and events.
- Perform other duties within functional profile as necessary for efficient functioning of the Office and Organization.
Requirements
- Completion of secondary education is required.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience as a driver in an internationally recognized company, organization, embassy/consulate or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
- Skills in minor vehicle repairs is desirable.
- Good knowledge of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is desirable.
- Working knowledge of English is required.
- Fluency Turkish is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
