As a Project Engineer within the SCE Department, you will contribute to the delivery of complex construction projects at CERN. You will coordinate interfaces with internal and external stakeholders throughout design and construction phases, ensuring technical, scheduling, budgetary, and safety objectives are met.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in feasibility studies and preliminary design of new projects, coordinating civil engineering design services with external design offices and other equipment/services.
  • Participate in preparation of invitations to tender, selection of firms, opening of offers and decisions related to designer or contractor selection.
  • Supervise execution of civil engineering works on-site, ensuring compliance with contractual design drawings and specifications, monitoring measurements, payments, costs and schedules.
  • Organise hand-over procedures for civil works, follow up any subsequent work required to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure all safety measures are implemented on-site to minimize accident rates.

Requirements

  • You must be a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (excluding Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for 2026 start date).
  • By the application deadline, you must have a master's degree with 2 to 6 years of professional experience since graduation or a PhD with a maximum of 3 years of professional experience since graduation.
  • You are not eligible with only a bachelor's degree.
  • You must never have had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Interest in construction projects and project coordination, with a willingness to learn under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Organised, proactive, flexible and able to work autonomously in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Good communication and team spirit in an international environment, with an open-minded and diplomatic approach.
  • Your studies focused on Civil Engineering.
  • Good knowledge of project management tools, including proficiency in the MS Office suite and MS Project.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Ability to work in Radiation Areas and underground installations.
  • Availability for stand-by duty and work during nights, Sundays and official holidays when required.
