The Senior Community-Based Protection Assistant works directly with communities of concern to identify risks and leverage their capacities for protection. The role supports community-based protection standards and practices, builds networks within communities, and contributes to protection planning and programming under the Protection Unit.
Responsibilities
- Assist functional units, the Multi-Functional Team (MFT) and senior management to integrate participatory and community-based approaches in the overall protection strategy
- Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments impacting protection environment and advise protection team
- Assist in initiatives with host communities to involve national civil society groups in protection of persons of concern
- Support implementing and operational partners and communities to develop community-owned activities addressing social, educational, psycho-social, cultural, health, organisational and livelihood concerns as well as child protection and GBV prevention and response
- Assist in analysis identifying capacities and risks of communities of concern
- Support participatory assessments by multifunctional teams and ongoing consultation with persons of concern
- Support efforts to build office capacity for community-based protection
- Support communities in establishing representation and coordination structures
- Ensure community understanding of UNHCR's commitment to accountability and quality assurance
- Collect data for monitoring programmes and budgets from an AGD perspective
- Draft and type routine correspondence, documents and reports and maintain filing systems
- Act as interpreter in exchange of routine information and respond to routine queries
- Assist in enforcement of participatory AGD sensitive analysis as basis for UNHCR's work
- Initiate AGD sensitive interventions on community-based protection issues and respond to protection concerns and incidents
- Identify and recommend individuals or groups to prioritize for counselling and field visits
- Enforce compliance of implementing partners with global protection policies and standards
- Support identification and management of risks and seize opportunities impacting objectives in area of responsibility
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
- For G5- 2 years relevant experience with High School Diploma; or 1 year relevant work experience with Bachelor or equivalent or higher
- Certificates and/or Licenses in Development, Human Rights, International Law, Social Work, Social Science, Political Science
- Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English
- Fluency in English, Russian and Romanian languages in oral and written communication
- Experience in community and/or social work
- Strong communication, negotiation, organizational and drafting skills
- Working experience with UN/UNHCR or other international public sector organizations is an added advantage
- Knowledge of UN-UN/UNHCR Administrative Rules, Regulations and Procedures
