The Intern will support the EU Policy and Programme Support Division by monitoring EU migration policies, conducting research and data analysis, supporting meetings and drafting written outputs, and contributing to knowledge and information management. This internship offers experience in an international multicultural environment within the United Nations system, focusing on migration-related policy and programme support.
Responsibilities
- Monitor EU-level policy and programmatic developments related to migration and provide short, structured summaries highlighting key updates.
- Conduct desk research and support basic data analysis, including reviewing datasets, dashboards, reports, and trends produced by EU institutions, international organisations, or partners, and translate findings into short analytical notes and visuals.
- Support the preparation of meetings (agendas, background notes) and draft concise minutes and action points following internal and external meetings, helping to track follow-up actions.
- Assist with drafting first versions of internal notes, briefings, and other written products, as well as proofreading and formatting documents to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Support the preparation of PowerPoint presentations and visual materials, helping to structure key messages clearly and adapt content for different audiences.
- Contribute to knowledge and information management by organising documents, maintaining trackers and contact lists, and supporting the systematic sharing of information within the team.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in Migration Studies, EU Public Laws, Political or Social Sciences, Economic Studies, Business Administration, International Relations and/or Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or graduated within the last 12 months with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Migration Studies, EU Public Laws, Political or Social Sciences, Economic Studies, Business Administration, International Relations and/or Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
- Initial exposure (through studies, internships, or projects) to EU institutions, EU policies, or international cooperation, particularly in the field of migration or mobility.
- Experience with desk research and policy analysis, including drafting short analytical notes or summaries.
- Previous experience supporting meetings, including note‑taking or drafting presentations and minutes, is an asset.
- Familiarity with working with data, such as reviewing reports, datasets, dashboards, or basic quantitative information, is an advantage.
- Good analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesise complex policy and data information into clear, concise written outputs.
- Good drafting skills in English, with attention to structure, clarity, and accuracy.
- Ability to handle basic data analysis, interpret trends, and translate findings into short analytical notes, tables, or simple visuals, an asset.
- Organisational and information‑management skills, including the ability to manage documents, trackers, and multiple tasks efficiently.
- Demonstrated communication and coordination skills, including the ability to work in a team and support internal processes.
- Proficiency in standard office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); familiarity with dashboards or data tools is an asset.
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
- Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
