The Research Assistant supports the Division for Gender Affairs by researching, compiling, and organizing information on gender equality and women's rights to assist in the analysis and development of public policies. The role involves data collection, report preparation, and supporting policy discussions and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Research, compile and organize information and technical data on gender equality and women’s rights, specific programmes/projects and related topics relevant to public policy analysis and development.
  • Assist in monitoring developments/issues by collecting, selecting, analysing and compiling materials from multiple sources.
  • Assist in the evaluation and examination of analytical materials and policy-related information for accuracy, clarity and validity.
  • Maintain relevant repositories of policy documentation and reference materials.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for senior officers to support policy discussions and decision-making.
  • Prepare abstracts/bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, articles, books and publications related to development policies and gender equality.
  • Take notes and draft executive summaries of meetings and technical or policy dialogues with stakeholders.
  • Collect, organize and disseminate relevant UN and media information related to regional policy debates and initiatives.
  • Provide guidance/training to new/junior staff.
  • Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
  • Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
  • Perform other related work as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Technical, vocational certificate or studies in sociology, social sciences, and gender studies are required.
  • At least five years of experience in research and analysis of information in the areas of social development and gender equality policies is required.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three for candidates who possess a first level university degree or higher.
  • Experience supporting the organization of intergovernmental meetings and conferences with countries of the region is desirable.
  • One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
  • English and Spanish are required with UN Level II proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and UN Level III proficiency in Spanish (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
