This internship supports resource mobilization, partnerships, and strategic positioning for UN-Water activities including preparation for global processes such as the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), 2026 UN Water Conference, and the Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6. The intern will assist with research, analysis, donor briefs, and support implementation of the UN System-wide Strategy for Water and Sanitation.
Responsibilities
- Update and enhance the UN-Water Resource Mobilization Guide integrating latest financing trends and improving usability.
- Conduct research on water financing, donor priorities, and private sector engagement and produce analytical summaries.
- Draft donor briefs, concept notes, and proposals and support preparation of high-level materials.
- Support implementation of the UN System-wide Strategy and Collaborative Implementation Plan (CIP) and assist in tracking Priority Collaborative Actions.
- Assist with partner mapping, presentations, and meetings.
Requirements
- Should be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.
- Candidates enrolled in or with a degree in a water relevant field, such as sustainable development, international affairs, economics, social sciences, public policy, public administration, public health, natural resources management, environmental management, engineering or a related field are preferred.
- Applicants are not required to have professional work experience but experience (paid or volunteer) in the following areas would be an advantage: Providing services in policy related issues, Research and report-writing, Coordination and/or collaboration, Excellent interpersonal and partnership management skills.
- Any experience in the following is also an asset: Knowledge of and experience in other fields linked to water and sanitation, such as climate, biodiversity, desertification, environment, finance for development, etc.
- Experience working with the UN system or with related organizations.
- Knowledge of the sector, including global stakeholders and external support agencies.
