The Child Protection Officer ensures timely and quality implementation of Child Protection interventions within settlements, engaging at multiple community levels. The role involves communication, training, awareness raising, linking affected children to services, and documenting child protection issues.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in planning and budgeting processes for CP interventions including development of Implementation plans, Work Breakdown structures, Cash-flows, spending, and procurement plans.
  • Mobilize and facilitate stakeholder engagements during planning and development meetings, workshops and forums.
  • Facilitate timely and quality implementation of CP interventions according to guidance and approved models.
  • Gather, analyze and document community perspectives and needs on CP issues to inform programming.
  • Identify and support local CP partners in implementing planned activities.
  • Support collection and documentation of impact and success CP stories.
  • Build capacity of children, families and community to engage on CP matters and local leaders.
  • Coach and mentor community CP structures and actors including parents, parasocial workers, teachers.
  • Liaise with community-based and other CP actors.
  • Facilitate growth of grassroots movements on advocacy issues to end violence against children.
  • Mobilize communities and government institutions to participate in CP project planning, implementation and monitoring.
  • Sensitize community members on CP program issues and facilitate participation in community CP initiatives.
  • Follow-up on commitments by local leaders on child protection and well-being.
  • Represent IRC at stakeholder engagements and advocate on Child Protection issues.
  • Support multi-sectoral, inter-agency networking and coordination to strengthen CP prevention, response, and referral mechanisms.
  • Monitor child well-being and abuse cases and report incidents per policy.
  • Work with community structures to protect children from abuse.
  • Sensitize children and stakeholders about children’s rights and responsibilities.
  • Facilitate CP advocacy, policy dialogue and campaign interventions ensuring coherence between settlement, district and national levels.
  • Serve as Focal Point for CP in the settlement and support compliance with CP standards and models.
  • Facilitate meaningful participation of children as agents of change in project interventions.
  • Engage partners to assess and address child protection issues in the community.
  • Ensure application of standard monitoring and evaluation tools in project implementation.
  • Facilitate and monitor implementation of planned activities and community engagements.
  • Support supervision and monitoring of programmatic activities by stakeholders and partners.
  • Document and share impact stories, lessons and best practices.
  • Compile quality and timely reports on progress of planned activities.
  • Provide technical support in development of IEC and learning materials on CP.

Requirements

  • University degree, preferably in social work, sociology, law, Human Rights, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in protection programming, including GBV, Child Protection, or Protection Monitoring.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, such as Children, refugees, IDPs, returnees and migrants, in displacement settings.
  • Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and multi-stakeholder coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience in Program Cycle Management (PCM) and understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and accountability practices.
  • Strong knowledge of protection principles, safeguarding practices, and durable solutions.
  • Proficiency in designing and delivering training programs for staff and stakeholders.
  • Excellent report and proposal writing, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Financial acumen, including budget development and expenditure monitoring.
  • Ability to represent the organization effectively in meetings with local authorities and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, representation, and people-centered management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.
