Internship - Air Traffic Management and Search and Rescue, ESAF

The internship supports the implementation of regional air navigation, operational efficiency and emergency response activities in the ICAO Eastern and Southern African Region. The intern will assist in technical, analytical, and coordination tasks related to Air Traffic Management (ATM), Aeronautical Information Management (AIM), and Search and Rescue (SAR) initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of technical briefs, working papers, reports and presentations related to ATM, AIM and SAR.
• Support compilation, maintenance and analysis of operational performance and implementation data related to ATM and AIM systems and programmes.
• Assist in monitoring and following up on actions from regional planning, coordination and implementation meetings related to air navigation and operational efficiency.
• Support coordination, monitoring and tracking of regional SAR activities to enhance preparedness and implementation.
• Assist in reviewing SAR contingency plans, exercise reports and related operational documentation.
• Contribute to identification and analysis of implementation gaps in SAR systems and support related reporting and follow-up.
• Support tracking of action items and implementation progress from regional planning and technical bodies.
• Assist in drafting meeting summaries, technical records and outcome reports.
• Support maintenance of electronic records, databases and information systems related to ATM, AIM and SAR activities.
• Assist in collection, compilation and analysis of operational and safety-related data to support regional monitoring and performance improvement.
• Support preparation of periodic progress reports, implementation updates and performance monitoring documentation.
• Support coordination and engagement with civil aviation authorities, air navigation service providers and regional stakeholders.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Candidates must have completed or be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree programme related to Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation, Air Transport Management, Aviation Safety Management, Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Telecommunications/Navigation Systems), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Transport and Logistics Management.
• No prior work experience is required for the internship.
• Applicants’ academic training, education, advanced coursework, or relevant skills should benefit the ICAO ESAF Region during the internship.
• Fluent reading, writing and speaking abilities in English are essential.
• A working knowledge of French is desirable.
