The Consultant will coordinate the implementation of the CMS project for the Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI), support the preparation of reports and documentation, assist in implementing COP15 Decisions related to aquatic species, and develop outreach and capacity-building materials. The position is based in the CMS Secretariat at Bonn, Germany, under UNEP.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of the CMS project for the Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI).
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports, donor reports, and other documentation required for internal and external project stakeholders.
  • Support implementation of Decisions taken at the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CMS (COP15).
  • Support development and implementation of the Programme of Work of the Sessional Committee of the Scientific Council (ScC-SC), arising from COP15, and relating to aquatic species.
  • Prepare background documents for meetings.
  • Prepare and follow-up after meetings and workshops.
  • Develop project proposals for fundraising.
  • Prepare publications, presentations and other outreach material, including content for the websites.
  • Develop capacity-building materials (e.g. videos, presentations, handouts) for workshops and courses.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental science, marine biology, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree, combined with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Two years of relevant working experience required, including at least one year in an international context, for example with the United Nations, IGO, or an international NGO.
  • Knowledge of the UN, the Convention on Migratory Species, and issues relating to the conservation of wild animals required.
  • Excellent writing skills are required.
  • Excellent skills in standard software applications are required.
