The Trainee will support the Portfolio Solutions team in managing and monitoring the EIF equity investments portfolio, focusing on valuation tasks for the Business Angel investments. The role involves developing a reliable database, enhancing valuation quality using AI technologies, and assisting with portfolio analysis and audit exercises.

Responsibilities

  • Gather qualitative and quantitative information on Business Angels and underlying companies from a diverse range of data sources.
  • Assist the Portfolio Solutions team in developing back testing model, analyse portfolio returns and conduct comparative valuation of investments that fall under the same asset class, location and industry by creating Pitchbook, Capital IQ and AI-based reports.
  • Assist the Portfolio Solutions team with the annual depositary exercise to verify the ownership of the Business Angels investments.
  • Support the valuation exercise of the investments held by the European Angels Fund and the completion of the audit.
  • Reconcile valuation files and responses of the depositary.
  • Create automated files to follow up on valuations, and improve related models.
  • Learn to interpret key investment metrics such as ROI, IRR, cash burn and market multiples.
  • Support skills in analytical reasoning, financial analysis and stakeholder communication.

Requirements

  • University degree (Bachelor minimum) in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related disciplines.
  • Post-graduate qualifications would be a distinct advantage.
  • ACCA or similar professional qualification would be an advantage.
  • Good financial analysis skills, with a particular focus on company fundamental analysis, valuation and pricing (Multiples, DCF, comparables, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Capital IQ, Pitchbook, Orbis or similar financial databases.
  • Prior exposure to AI-based tools related to either company valuations and/or to data related workflows.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including capacity to utilise and develop complex financial valuation models) and good knowledge of other Microsoft application tools (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Good command of Spanish and/or German would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Quality focus and high level of accuracy in data analysis.
  • Strong sense of ethics with the ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
  • Strong ability to organize and follow up on tasks with colleagues across the institution.
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts, tools, and methodologies.
  • Excellent team-working abilities.
