Planning, coordinating and monitoring all logistics activities in the project related to medical and cold chain equipment according to MSF protocols and standards in order to ensure an optimal running of the project. The role includes managing biomedical equipment maintenance, training staff, and ensuring compliance with MSF standards in challenging operational environments.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the definition of objectives and planning of biomedical and cold chain activities including reviewing the annual budget to identify and respond to mission and population needs.
- Monitor and ensure implementation of biomed activities in the project ensuring compliance with MSF standards, protocols and procedures, reporting to the Project Coordinator.
- Monitor and ensure implementation of biomed equipment management procedures including installation, disposal/renewal, correct use and maintenance, and follow-up of maintenance contracts.
- Ensure preventive and curative maintenance, fault diagnosis, annual diagnosis and certification for equipment with specialized training.
- Coordinate and organize equipment/support exchange between projects to minimize out-of-service items, including packing, shipment and contact with service providers or MSF Supply Centre for repairs.
- Organize, plan and ensure appropriate stock management including inventories of spare parts and backup equipment, and quality assessment of local purchase companies.
- Manage biomed technicians and elaborate their activity planning.
- Participate in HR processes including recruitment, training, briefing/debriefing, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication for staff under responsibility.
- Provide technical support and training to staff on use, control, preventive maintenance and basic repair of common equipment.
- Manage training of medical staff about hygiene on biomed equipment based on regular assessments.
- Participate in monthly reports according to management guidelines and follow up, analyze and report on maintenance activities and technical aspects of work.
- Install and train on complex and non-complex medical and cold chain equipment including oxygen concentrators, anaesthesia machines, ultrasound equipment, autoclaves, laboratory equipment.
- Conduct technical assessment for local purchases and service contracts.
- Support MSF standard and non-standard medical and cold chain equipment.
Requirements
- Degree as a Biomedical Technician, Biomedical Engineer or a related technical field is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience managing, maintaining or supporting medical equipment, preferably in hospital environments.
- Demonstrated technical skills and understanding of biomedical equipment, maintenance procedures and troubleshooting.
- Previous experience managing medical equipment in humanitarian, low-resource or emergency settings will be considered a strong asset.
- Experience delivering training, coaching or capacity-building activities will be considered an asset.
- Fluency in French is mandatory.
- English and/or Spanish will be considered an asset.
- Good level of computer literacy and ability to use digital tools for equipment management, reporting and documentation.
- Strong competencies in people management, teamwork and cooperation, behavioural flexibility, quality orientation and commitment to MSF principles.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural and challenging operational environments, ensuring the safe and efficient use of medical equipment.
