This internship position supports the Ecosystems Division programme coordination and management at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) office in Nairobi, Kenya. The intern assists in project implementation review, data entry, financial analysis, quality assurance of publications, and provides flexible support to unit functions.
Responsibilities
- Assist in keeping under review the Division's project implementation progress and reporting through the Ecosystems Division Project Portfolio Dashboard and Integrated Planning, Monitoring and Reporting (IPMR).
- Support in keeping under review the project's cycle management, including operational closure.
- Assist in data entry, validation and accuracy of project-related information in IPMR and in the relevant databases and systems.
- Assist in analyzing the status of financial implementation through available information systems.
- Assist in quality assurance review of publication concepts and full publications by ensuring alignment with the UNEP Publishing Policy and Guidelines.
- Assist in tracking publications and concepts clearance process in the publications system and update the quality assurance process in the Publications Master file and in the online tracking tool.
- Provide flexible and ad hoc support to unit functions, as and when required.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
- Be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Good knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
- Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree or currently enrolled in a bachelor's Programme.
- Background in Statistics, Project Management, International Relations, International Business Administration or another related field.
