The Psychiatrist will provide specialized psychiatric consultations and treatment to clients with moderate and severe mental disorders in community or home settings, either as part of mobile medical teams or independently. The role includes general medical consultations, pharmaceutical management, clinical assessments, emergency management, referrals coordination, and participation in Ministry of Health case management meetings.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized psychiatric consultations and treatment to clients with moderate and severe mental disorders in community or home settings.
- Assess clients’ specific needs and develop individualized case-management strategies accordingly.
- Work closely with psychologist, physician, and nurse to ensure physical and mental health and well-being of vulnerable clients through daily home visits.
- Provide basic medical consultation and treatment for acute and chronic conditions when required and make appropriate referrals.
- Conduct group psychoeducation sessions and/or training courses.
- Provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and conduct field visits for this purpose.
- Support pharmacist project in management of pharmaceuticals, including psychotropic medications.
- Effectively manage urgent cases, make appropriate referrals, and participate in Ministry of Health case management meetings.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services provided while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Participate in supervision meetings and provide regular reports on activities undertaken.
- Receive and redirect referrals from other IRC departments and external organizations.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support MHPSS program objectives.
Requirements
- Medical degree with specialization in Psychiatry.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in psychiatry in clinical and/or direct practice settings.
- Prior experience in health programs and NGO work is desirable.
- Knowledge of and experience in clinical supervision and training.
- Familiarity with and application of IASC MHPSS guidelines and best practices as part of prior work experience.
- Significant experience in clinical supervision, training, and/or coaching of others.
- Experience in assessment, program development, evaluation, and technical training/supervision using WHO’s Mental Health Gap Action Program (mhGAP).
- Clear understanding of protection principles, case management, and client-centered care in humanitarian settings.
- Fluency in Ukrainian is required; basic English is desirable.
- Strong IT skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, essential for tasks such as data collection, map updates, and providing detailed weekly reports on outreach activities.
