The Executive Director serves as the primary community-facing leader and facilitator for the American Red Cross at the chapter level, leading collaborative planning, strategic relationships, and community engagement to achieve regional goals. This role involves external representation, leadership of volunteer and board governance, and partnership development to strengthen community resilience and Red Cross services.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary community-facing leader of the American Red Cross, maximizing presence, connectivity, and recognition in the community.
- Span organizational boundaries and bridge silos for coordinated community response.
- Ensure connectivity across Programs, Communications, and Fundraising.
- Participate as a member of the Regional Leadership Team to support achievement of regional goals.
- Lead the chapter planning process and drive progress toward plan objectives.
- Convene and align cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to co-create chapter plans with shared outcomes, roles, and accountability.
- Use data and community voice to prioritize deployment of secondary services to close gaps and improve equity.
- Lead the chapter in supporting achievement of revenue targets and fundraising goals.
- Recruit, develop, and support philanthropy committee members.
- Manage a portfolio of strategic relationships with elected officials and community leaders.
- Serve as a member of the Elected Officials Liaison Network and support disaster responses.
- Develop, support, and ensure success of the Chapter Board of Directors.
- Develop, lead, and manage community volunteer leaders.
- Support mission capacity building and volunteer recruitment.
- Partner with Communications and Fundraising teams to align messaging and campaign execution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Management experience is not required but helpful, including volunteer management experience.
- Ability to work on a team.
- Requires travel and participation in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, region, state, and Red Cross system.
- Physical requirements include ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods, sitting for long periods, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
