Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist and technical guidance of the Chief of Communication, the Communication Associate supports communications, advocacy and partnerships activities in Gaza. The role involves information gathering, content creation, event support, liaison with contractors, quality control of communication products, and administrative support to ensure smooth operation of the communication section.
Responsibilities
- Collect information, conduct interviews of beneficiaries and partners to contribute to drafting human-interest stories, photo essays, videos, social media posts and other communication products.
- Organize and generate public support for special events and activities; assist in preparation of communication materials for briefing and visits of media, goodwill ambassadors, donors, National Committee representatives and other special interest groups.
- Assist in updating content on UNICEF social media platforms in English and Arabic.
- Develop and maintain close collaboration with mass media and groups essential to advocacy, partnerships and communications objectives.
- Liaise with contractors such as photographers, video crews, writers, translators, designers and printing companies; assist in preparation, production and editing of communication assets and oversee quality control.
- Review communication, advocacy, visibility products to ensure quality control and adherence to UNICEF standards.
- Monitor timely dissemination of advocacy, partnerships and communications materials to target audiences.
- Establish and maintain documentation center for publications, press releases, clippings, photographic and audio-visual materials and mailing lists.
- Plan and issue payments, follow up on cash advances, liquidation and budget.
- Summarize information reflecting current obligations and future programme and/or budgetary implications; organize data and information.
- Prepare and maintain records, document and control plans for monitoring communication strategy implementation.
- Provide administrative and clerical support including scrutinizing plans of operations, exchanges of letters and follow-up actions.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the field of work.
- A minimum of six years of relevant administrative or clerical work experience is required.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
- University courses in communications, technical training in media production, experience in media relations, experience in social media management, experience in content creation, experience in event logistics, knowledge of graphic design, experience with photo and video editing, experience working with donors and ambassadors are desirable.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is desirable.
