The Driver will provide reliable, safe, and professional transportation and logistical support to ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the World Bank office in Guinea-Bissau and the effective delivery of the Bank's operations. The role requires punctuality, sound judgment, and adaptability in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging operational environment, including field missions in remote or difficult terrain.

Responsibilities

  • Drive teams to meeting venues and field trips with professionalism.
  • Deliver daily office assignments according to World Bank procedures, ensuring road security and safe driving.
  • Stay alert and manage logistics during Senior Management Visits and flight delays.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle cleanliness and good condition, record mileage and gasoline consumption.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections to anticipate mechanical issues and prevent breakdowns.
  • Collect and disseminate correspondences to government and stakeholders; carry visa requests to embassies.
  • Follow up on tax exemptions, VAT exemptions, vehicle registration, and license plates with relevant authorities.
  • Use tact and diplomacy at ministries and embassies to resolve difficult cases in liaison with the Administration Unit.
  • Perform fiduciary tasks assigned by the Administration Unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • At least five years of driving experience with knowledge of auto mechanics.
  • Good geographical knowledge of Guinea-Bissau; familiarity with Senegal Country Management Unit countries (Senegal, Cabo Verde, Mauritania, The Gambia) and the sub-region is an asset.
  • Valid driving documents for the sub-region, including a driver’s license for 4x4 vehicles and minibuses.
  • Recent certificate of fitness proving fitness to drive.
  • Training certificate from the Red Cross on first aid is an asset.
  • Certificate of training in auto mechanics and other relevant technical training in electronics or electricity is an asset.
  • Experience working in an international institution is an advantage.
  • Language requirements: English and Portuguese (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of computers and MS Office is desirable.
