The Communications Associate supports the formulation and implementation of communications and advocacy strategies to increase the visibility and awareness of UN Women with partners, media, and the public. The role involves coordinating communication efforts, managing social media presence, supporting media relations, and facilitating knowledge sharing to advance gender equality and women's empowerment in Rwanda.
Responsibilities
- Provide coordination support in the development of a coherent CO communications and advocacy strategy including inputs to the Country Office communication strategy and support to advocacy efforts and campaigns.
- Provide coordination support to the development of CO’s advocacy materials including implementation of corporate campaigns and management of publication materials.
- Provide substantive support in the management of the CO’s social media presence and website including content development, updates, and reporting on web statistics.
- Provide media relations support to the CO head of office including serving as a focal point for press activities, maintaining press relationships, and drafting talking points.
- Facilitate knowledge management and sharing by drafting communication products, supporting documentation of activities, conducting trainings, and exchanging information with HQ and other offices.
- Perform other duties within functional profile as necessary for efficient functioning of the Office and Organization.
Requirements
- Completion of secondary education is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or journalism is desirable.
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in providing support to the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies and related plans is required.
- Experience in the use of social media and digital communications is required.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required.
- Experience in the use of a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Fluency in Kiryarwanda is required.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
