The internship supports the United Nations Academic Impact initiative within the Civil Society and Academic Impact Section of the Outreach Division. The intern assists with research, content production, social media, event planning, database maintenance, and general office support at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Responsibilities
- Conduct internet research on thematic issues related to UNAI’s principles and mandate, including human rights, access to education, sustainability and conflict resolution.
- Assist with producing, drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original web site content including news stories, graphics, photographs and video.
- Assist with producing social media content for LinkedIn account.
- Assist with preparing the weekly UNAI Newsletter.
- Assist with planning and organization of lectures and events, including researching speakers, preparing invitations and promotional material.
- Assist with maintaining UNAI databases.
- Provide general office support including processing, drafting and finalizing correspondence and other communications; setting up and maintaining files/records, organizing meetings.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- A field of study closely related to the internship type is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
- Applicants should have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Skills and experience in writing, social media and multimedia production are strongly desired.
- An assessment of writing skills may be conducted prior to an interview.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
- Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
