The internship is offered by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in the Statistics, Data and Digital Service (SDDS). The intern will assist with statistical and analytical activities related to Illicit Financial Flows, South-South cooperation, and Beyond GDP, including preparation of documentation, organization of meetings, analyses, drafting reports, and outreach activities. The internship can be remote or in-person and is unpaid.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with statistical and analytical activities related to Illicit Financial Flows (IFFs), South-South cooperation (SSC), and/or Beyond GDP.
  • Assist with the preparation of documentation and the organization of meetings.
  • Assist with analyses and the drafting of reports.
  • Perform other duties as required, including assisting with outreach activities.
  • Work under the guidance and supervision of a designated supervisor ensuring a structured and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Should be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Have knowledge of data analysis and/or programming (R, Python, Stata or similar).
  • No professional work experience is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Interns must have full access to a computer with a modern browser and Office 365 applications.
  • Computer must have basic IT security best practices implemented, including latest Windows OS, software and security updates, enabled firewall, and password manager.
  • Interns must observe all applicable UN rules, regulations, instructions, procedures, and directives.
  • Interns must provide the receiving department with copies of all materials prepared during the internship, with property rights assigned to the UN.
  • Interns must respect the impartiality and independence of the UN and not accept instructions from external authorities.
  • Interns must not communicate confidential information without authorization and must refrain from conduct adverse to the UN's aims and objectives.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated and must cover their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents may require appropriate visa and work authorization.
  • Applicants related to UN staff members have restrictions on eligibility and supervision.
  • The UN does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
