The internship is located in the International Tax and Development Cooperation Branch of the Financing for Sustainable Development Office in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The intern supports capacity development programs on financing for sustainable development, focusing on international tax cooperation and domestic resource mobilization.
Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting, reviewing and preparing papers, presentations, studies, reports and other relevant documents.
- Attend and summarize conferences and meetings, including virtual meetings.
- Assist during meetings organized by FSDO, including virtual meetings and outreach.
- Research, compile and analyze information in tax matters including double tax treaties, transfer pricing, BEPS, taxing the digitalized economy, tax and trade agreements, environmental taxation, tax transparency, tax disputes, indirect taxation such as VAT, wealth taxation, taxation and AI, and tax-related ESG issues.
- Assist in collecting data for analyses and reporting of workshop/training/meetings surveys and summarize related quantitative and qualitative data for reports.
- Assist in collecting data for monitoring, review, reporting and evaluation, including for multidonor projects.
- Support ITDCB's communications and outreach strategies for meetings, workshops and trainings.
- Prepare and provide inputs for briefing notes, talking points, speeches and similar materials for senior UN officials.
- Follow relevant intergovernmental meetings and prepare draft summaries on main outcomes.
- Assist with any other ad hoc assignments related to the work of the Branch.
Requirements
- Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
