The role involves assisting in the production and dissemination of communication materials, managing digital platforms, and supporting media monitoring and outreach initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provides administrative and logistical support for communication campaigns, outreach activities, meetings, events and multimedia projects; processes, drafts and finalizes correspondence and other communications; sets up and maintains files/records, schedules and supporting documentation, organizes meetings, monitors deadlines, etc.
- Coordinates administrative services, including preparing, monitoring and processing various requisitions, service contracts and payment vouchers, coordinating special assignments and related travel authorizations in support of Hindi Language Project.
- Provides specialized assistance to officers in the production and delivery of information communications products and services by assisting in the drafting, editing, formatting and dissemination of communication materials, including news stories, feature articles, web content, newsletters and social media posts, ensuring consistency with United Nations editorial standards.
- Manages, updates and further develops internal databases and other information management systems related to the project activities and communication products and editorial calendars updates.
- Assists in updating and maintaining Hindi-language digital platforms, including UN News and other web and social media channels, and supports the timely publication of communication content.
- Supports the translation, language adaptation and versioning of communication materials from other official languages into Hindi, as appropriate, ensuring linguistic accuracy and consistency of terminology.
- Researches, compiles and presents basic information from a variety of sources to support the preparation of news stories and other communication products relevant to Hindi-speaking audiences.
- Monitors media coverage of important events, digital platforms and social media trends related to United Nations priorities, compiles relevant information and prepares summaries and reports for supervisors.
- Participates in the planning and coordination day-to-day communication activities with other UN News language teams and relevant organizational units to facilitate collaborative planning and the timely delivery of multilingual content.
- Using relevant computer software, creates designs in appropriate format for promotional and other material, e.g. brochures, presentational materials, announcements, video and audio cassette covers and catalogues, etc.; ensures that photos, graphics, etc. are appropriate and conform to UN standards for print materials.
- Assists in collecting and compiling audience engagement statistics and other communication performance data to support reporting and evaluation of project activities.
- Identifies and prepares new material for inclusion in appropriate web pages by researching various information sources for relevant material and cross-checking information with author offices as required; retrieving and downloading pertinent documentation and other information in requisite programming languages for Web format or inserting into database after determining appropriate categorization; preparing new pages, incorporating graphics as needed, using appropriate authoring tools and necessary programming languages; preparing and updating index of documents; posting documents on the UN web and/or development servers and ensuring the appropriate directory location; checking and testing for multiple browser support, etc.
- Provides guidance/training to junior staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in public communications, production and dissemination of information communication products and services on a website platform or related area is required.
- The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
- Experience in digital content support and social media digital content support is desirable.
- Experience in media monitoring or research is desirable.
- Experience in supporting communications campaigns or outreach initiatives is desirable.
- Experience working in the United Nations Common System or in similar large organizations is desirable.
- English is required at UN Level III for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Hindi is required at UN Level III for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
