The consultant will support the UNESCO Regional Office in South Asia to advance teacher development, competency-based education reforms, and implementation of SDG 4.7 across South Asia, focusing on Sri Lanka, Himachal Pradesh (India), and Bhutan. The role includes project management, coordination, reporting, and supporting education for peace and sustainable development initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of competency-based education activities for the Himachal Pradesh project.
  • Coordinate and manage national and international experts to review policies, curricula, and teacher training programs.
  • Support development of teacher training modules and facilitate school-based pilot cycles.
  • Establish teacher observation and monitoring mechanisms and oversee evaluation reports.
  • Manage administrative tasks including mission reports, contracts, and budget monitoring.
  • Support preparation of project extension proposals.
  • Finalize the second year of the Bhutan Differentiated Learning project and contribute to reports and documentation.
  • Support implementation of the 2023 UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development by developing project proposals and coordinating with partners.
  • Coordinate UNESCO’s emergency response to cyclone Ditwah in Sri Lanka and initiatives to restore safe learning environments.
  • Update UNINFO system entries for education activities in India and support regular reporting to UNCT focal points in Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka.
  • Attend online UNCT Education Group meetings.

Requirements

  • Advanced University degree (equivalent to Masters) in education or social sciences.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in education programme management, with at least 2 years at the international level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of education and socio-economic systems in a developing and Least Development Income Countries context, especially in South Asia.
  • Good knowledge of issues related to Global Citizenship Education, and Teachers Development.
  • Familiarity with UN System mechanics (UNDAF, UNCT and UN Joint Programming).
  • Proven ability to draft clear, high-quality reports and proposals.
  • Excellent coordination, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in a multicultural environment.
  • Strong IT and results-based management skills.
  • Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
