The Analyst (Concept Development) supports NATO's Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate by managing and coordinating concept development and experimentation projects. The role involves strategic analysis, research, and experimentation to develop and validate military concepts that enhance NATO's future capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates Concept Development & Experimentation Projects and Activities.
  • Designs, organizes and performs strategic analysis activities to enable and support the development of strategic concepts, helping to shape the relevant documents and bringing clarity, preciseness, completeness and coherence to the whole process.
  • Conducts research to develop solution-oriented transformational ideas that address capability gaps, including attending conferences, workshops, utilizing post-experiment/exercise data, and considering lessons learned.
  • Conducts strategic analysis in support of Concept Development to determine required aspects of the military system over doctrine, organization, training, material, leadership, personnel, facilities and interoperability (DOTMLPFI).
  • Conducts strategic analysis to determine feasibility, validity and robustness of concepts and establish their benefits and value.
  • Supports the design and conduct of experimentation and test/validation activities.
  • Analyses the usefulness of proposed solutions from Concept Development to determine their potential contribution to NATO’s future capability.
  • Serves as an expert in operational experimentation and participates as a team member in planning, execution, analysis and reporting of experiments.

Requirements

  • University Degree and 2 years function related experience, or Higher Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
  • 4 years’ experience in the application of Concept Development, Strategic and Operational Research/Analysis, Systems Analysis, Experimentation or related techniques in a military environment.
  • Practical experience of managing programs & projects concerned with the conduct of studies that address the impact of military capability change.
  • Expertise in applying analytical methods to defence domain issues. Methods may include: war gaming, computer modelling and simulation, mathematical modelling, optimization techniques, process mapping, and soft systems methods or social science techniques.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with good briefing skills.
