The Médecin IPC / responsable d’équipe unité mobile will lead the IRC mobile team to support targeted health facilities in Beni, DRC. The role involves working closely with the Ministry of Health to strengthen Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) systems and practices, providing clinical supervision, training, mentoring, and technical guidance to health workers, and ensuring strict adherence to IPC protocols in Ebola isolation units.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of IPC activities in health facilities and mobile units supported by IRC, ensuring compliance with national and international IPC standards.
- Provide clinical and IPC supervision within supported facilities, ensuring patient care practices and strict adherence to IPC protocols.
- Conduct regular supervisory visits to health facilities and mobile units to monitor IPC quality and identify improvement areas.
- Ensure clinical care and infection prevention measures are systematically applied by facility and mobile unit staff according to approved guidelines and protocols.
- Facilitate and deliver IPC training sessions for health facility and mobile unit staff, including ongoing mentoring and field support.
- Support safe orientation and transfer of suspected or confirmed infectious patients to designated treatment centers per established protocols.
- Supervise daily mobile unit staff, monitor performance and wellbeing, and provide guidance to ensure quality service delivery.
- Support capacity building of health facility and mobile unit staff through coaching, mentoring, and practical skills development.
- Ensure patient consultations, surveillance registers, reference documentation, and other relevant records are accurately completed and submitted timely.
- Monitor availability and use of IPC supplies in supported facilities and collaborate with facility management and IRC teams to strengthen forecasting, demand, distribution, and consumption tracking systems.
- Identify operational challenges affecting IPC implementation and escalate issues to IPC Manager while supporting corrective action development and implementation.
- Collect, compile, and submit regular activity reports, assessment results, and monitoring data to support program planning and decision-making.
- Maintain effective working relationships with health facility management, community stakeholders, and IRC departments to support coordinated IPC activity implementation.
- Promote a positive and professional work environment fostering teamwork, accountability, and respect for IRC values and policies.
- Consistently monitor and assess safety and security of field activities and personnel, promptly reporting concerns, incidents, or emerging risks to IPC Manager and IRC management.
- Support epidemic preparedness and response activities, including deployments during high demand and emergency interventions as needed.
- Comply with all IRC security, protection, health, and safety policies during operations in high-risk environments.
- Perform other duties assigned by the IPC Manager to support successful implementation and development of IRC health programs.
Requirements
- Medical Doctor with current registration.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Medical Doctor, including prior experience working on Ebola virus disease and in resource-limited settings.
- Proven experience in implementing IPC practices and system improvements, ideally in low-resource contexts.
- Previous experience working with IRC is desirable.
- Proven experience supervising a team with strict infection control adherence.
- Previous training or teaching experience.
- Strong leadership, management, planning, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to live in challenging conditions and work under difficult, high-pressure situations.
- Team spirit with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work under pressure in a stressful environment, demonstrating patience, compassion, and diplomacy.
- Fluency in French and functional knowledge of English are an asset.
