The internship supports the Digital Technology Training Development project at the United Nations Global Service Centre in Valencia, focusing on strengthening training capabilities for Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions through learning needs assessments and development of digital and blended training programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Support the conduct of Learning Needs Assessments (LNAs) and curriculum design processes through consultations with diverse stakeholders, including structured interviews, focus groups, and data collection activities.
  • Assist in job and task analysis to identify roles, responsibilities, and the knowledge, skills, and competencies required by target audiences across Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, as well as other UN entities.
  • Assist in the development, review, and revision of learning content and supporting materials, ensuring accuracy, relevance, coherence, pedagogical soundness, and alignment with defined learning objectives and target audience needs.
  • Apply appropriate adult learning strategies tailored to the subject matter, using established instructional design principles and quality standards to contribute to the creation of engaging, learner-centred training materials, incorporating interactive elements, practical examples, and scenario-based learning approaches.
  • Support the application of experiential and reflective learning methodologies and assist in the selection and use of appropriate instructional multimedia tools and formats to enhance learner engagement and retention, taking into account audience characteristics, learning context, and operational environments.
  • Assist with pedagogical analysis, including content mapping, scenarization, and storyboarding for learning materials across different delivery modalities.
  • Support the development of curricula in close collaboration with subject matter experts, instructional designers, course developers, and instructional technology specialists.
  • Contribute to the design of blended learning programmes delivered at global, regional, and national levels, including e-learning, virtual learning, and instructor-led training formats.
  • Assist in testing and quality assurance of courses, learning materials, and training content across multiple media and platforms; support the design, administration, and analysis of surveys and other evaluation tools to assess learning effectiveness and collect participant feedback.
  • Assist in the collection, organization, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data related to job functions and performance requirements to support evidence-based identification of learning needs.
  • Support the documentation, synthesis, and presentation of Learning Needs Analysis findings, including summaries of job and task analyses and recommended learning priorities, for internal reporting and decision-making.
  • Perform other duties as required, consistent with the scope of the Internship.

Requirements

  • The basic education required is HS Diploma.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, or similar.
  • Ability to draft professional emails to clients is desirable.
  • Ability to organize and conduct professional meetings with clients is desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is desirable.
