Occupational Therapy Life Skill Trainer Internship

The Occupational Therapy Life Skill Trainer Internship at IRC Salt Lake City involves providing life skills training under the direction of a staff occupational therapist to support clients' self-sufficiency and access to community resources. The internship offers professional experience in public health, teaching, and collaboration with diverse IRC teams.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the staff occupational therapist, provide life skills training activities in client homes and in the community.
• Provide assistance teaching group activities.
• Communicate with caseworkers, health team members, and others at IRC as OT collaborates with many different programs at the IRC.
• Document activities completed and response of client(s) and provide to OT.
• Attend staff meetings as schedule allows.
• Assist staff occupational therapist and OT students as assigned
• Support the IRC–SLC office with other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Interest in working with diverse populations
• Motivated, flexible, able to work independently
• Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Strong computer skills
• Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle, and willingness to drive clients
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English; fluency in additional foreign languages preferred.
• Background in health promotion, social work, or other related field preferred.
• Background check is required
• Intern will report to: Yda Smith, PhD, OTR/L
• COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement: Candidates selected for interview must furnish proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
