Child Protection Caseworker

The Child Protection Caseworker will provide individual protection and mental health and psychosocial support, and comprehensive case management services to children at risk or harmed. The role involves working closely with community workers and other stakeholders to support children and their caregivers, ensuring adherence to IRC's program guidelines and child protection standards.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and support the identification of children harmed or at-risk of harm, and safely refer them to the IRC focal point and relevant services.
• Provide individual protection support, and later case management services, to at risk children, including rapid assessments, case plans, Psychological First Aid, safety planning, coping support, risk reduction information, in-kind/cash support, referrals, and regular monitoring.
• Provide support to children’s caregivers including Psychological First Aid, MHPSS, positive parenting messages, risk-reduction information, MPCA/in-kind support, referrals, and regular follow-up.
• Collaborate closely with IRC community workers and other sectors to ensure confidential and responsive support to children and caregivers.
• Support adherence to child protection referral protocols and guiding principles, reporting concerns as needed.
• Lead dissemination of risk reduction information and identify barriers to service access and protection risks, proposing mitigation measures.
• Maintain relationships with communities and stakeholders to foster support for children and families.
• Keep accurate and confidential case records and reports, communicate regularly with supervisors.
• Attend case management and coordination meetings, coordinate with IRC sectors and partners, and maintain effective working relationships with local actors.
• Attend trainings, stay informed about child protection developments, monitor safety and security of field teams, promote IRC principles and code of conduct, provide translation/interpretation as needed, assist in partner identification, and perform other tasks as requested.

Requirements

• Degree desired in Social Work, Psychology, Human Rights, Social Science or other related field.
• At least 2 years’ experience working in child protection case management, preferably in the field of unaccompanied and separated children in humanitarian or development settings.
• Demonstrated understanding of working with children who have been affected by conflict, disasters or other humanitarian crises, particularly unaccompanied and separated children and children at-risk of violence, exploitation, abuse or neglect.
• Previous experience in emergency response preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to liaise with partner organizations.
• Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting.
• Good organizational and planning skills.
• High degree of flexibility and strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, maintain composure, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
• Highly motivated, interested and eager to learn.
• Fluency in Arabic; good English skills preferred.
• Available to travel within Gaza, as required.
