The Media and Communications Assistant will support the implementation of internal and external communication and media related activities for IOM’s operations in the Pacific sub-region, focusing on the South Pacific. The role involves assisting with preparation and dissemination of communication materials and visibility products, supporting media coverage for events, and responding to information requests.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general assistance in the implementation of media and communication-related activities including preparation of communication products such as success stories, human interest pieces, project briefs, social media content and visibility materials.
  • Assist with communication tasks by helping draft and format routine messaging and storytelling materials for review.
  • Support the preparation and dissemination of visibility materials across IOM platforms, following IOM and donor branding guidelines.
  • Assist project teams by compiling communication inputs and identifying approved content for communication materials.
  • Support the organization of media and communications coverage for meetings, workshops and training sessions.
  • Respond to general information requests and inquiries on media and communications; set up and maintain files/records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma with three years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree in communications, media, journalism, development studies, environmental science, international relations or a related field from an accredited academic institution with one year of relevant experience.
  • Experience in media and communication, including preparing content such as stories, social media posts, or simple visibility materials.
  • Experience providing administrative or communications support is desirable.
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Basic ability to write clearly and adapt content for different audiences.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content creation tools an advantage.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Photography, videography, or basic design skills considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Working knowledge of Pacific language is an asset.
