The Field Assistant supports the Site Management Team in implementing site management activities in displacement sites, including site mapping, monitoring, community engagement, and coordination. This is a fixed-term maternity leave replacement position for four months based in Gaza Strip.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular visits to sites to monitor conditions, identify needs, and follow up on ongoing activities and maintenance works.
  • Support the registration and updating of site information, including population figures, infrastructure, and services.
  • Participate in site mapping and ensure accurate and up-to-date data collection and reporting.
  • Identify site-level needs and gaps in coordination with site committees and service providers.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating community meetings, awareness sessions, and training on site management topics.
  • Support site planning and layout improvements in coordination with the Officer and technical teams.
  • Conduct quantity estimations (BoQs) for small-scale maintenance or site improvement works.
  • Follow up on site maintenance interventions to ensure quality, safety, and timely completion.
  • Support and lead small-scale site interventions in close coordination with the Site Management Officer and site committees.
  • Report urgent issues or emerging needs from the field to the Site Management Officer promptly.
  • Support the establishment and functioning of community committees and ensure their active participation in site management.
  • Help facilitate communication between communities and service providers.
  • Promote participation of women, youth, and persons with disabilities in site-level decision-making and activities.
  • Assist in organizing awareness sessions and community events to strengthen engagement and ownership.
  • Conduct household-level data collection and assist in updating site-level information tools.
  • Contribute to weekly site monitoring reports, service mapping, and referral tracking.
  • Support the dissemination of information at sites (posters, banners, public boards, etc.) ensuring accessibility for all groups.
  • Support coordination with local authorities, community leaders, and partner organizations during field visits.
  • Represent DRC respectfully in the field and promote collaboration among all stakeholders present in the sites.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Site Management Officer and support DRC’s site management objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian or community-based work.
  • Proven experience in site maintenance, small-scale infrastructure, or construction follow-up is an asset.
  • Ability to identify site needs, estimate quantities, and follow up on implementation of interventions.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in data collection, mapping, or reporting tools (Kobo, ODK) is desirable.
  • Ability to work long hours in field conditions and under pressure.
  • Openness to learning and professional growth.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, social sciences, or a related field desirable, but not mandatory.
