Maintenance Support Technician

Join the cryogenics maintenance team within CERN's Technology Department to support maintenance activities, prepare for technical shutdowns, and integrate new assets in maintenance systems. Gain unique experience working with complex cryogenic systems essential for the Large Hadron Collider's operation.

Responsibilities

• Collect and consolidate maintenance data within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Support the preparation and coordination of maintenance activities on-site.
• Roll out new maintenance methodologies in collaboration with field technicians.
• Enhance work instructions, checklists, and quality assurance procedures used by contractors.
• Contribute to the implementation of maintenance policies and best practices for new cryogenic assets as part of the HL-LHC project.

Requirements

• You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State, excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to membership agreement ceilings.
• Maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field by the application deadline.
• Highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree; you cannot hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• Basic mechanical and electrical skills.
• Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Knowledge of cryogenics fundamentals or oil and gas systems would be an advantage.
• Ability to read technical drawings.
• Understanding of maintenance documentation.
• Demonstrated teamwork, safety awareness, and problem-solving skills.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow established procedures.
• Motivation to learn and develop new technical competencies.
• Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
• A valid driving licence.
• Medical clearance required due to occupational health risks including exposure to electromagnetic fields.
• Willingness to work in radiation areas and underground installations.
