See your match score & applyAs a Mechanical Engineer at CERN, you will contribute to the design and development of advanced electromechanical systems for accelerator beam transfer. You will work alongside experienced engineers, physicists and technicians to develop innovative equipment used in a world-leading scientific research environment.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the conceptual design and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Produce engineering documentation, including 3D models, manufacturing drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Support the manufacturing, assembly, testing and installation of equipment.
- Collaborate with physicists, engineers and technicians to translate conceptual requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Participate in the development of innovative technologies for high-voltage pulsed power and accelerator systems.
Requirements
- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (excluding Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for 2026 start date).
- By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in the respective field.
- Your highest educational qualification is either a bachelor’s or master’s degree; you must have a university degree and cannot hold a PhD.
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Initial experience designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software (CATIA V5 is an advantage).
- Exposure to ISO GPS standards and BOM preparation.
- Hands-on experience in structural simulations using finite element analysis.
- Theoretical knowledge in mechanical behaviour of materials and production methods.
- Experience with additive manufacturing and 3D scanning would be an asset.
- Your studies focused on Mechanical Engineering.
- Knowledge of structural analysis using finite element methods.
- Ability to work in an international multi-disciplinary team with physicists, engineers and technicians.
- Skills to prepare comprehensive technical documentation.
- Experience with FEA software is an advantage.
- Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
