The Program Specialist, Disaster Services supports Disaster Program management and volunteer workforce primarily focusing on volunteer engagement and direct assistance to local disasters within the Michigan City/Ft Wayne IN region. The role involves facilitating volunteer teams, supporting disaster cycle services programming, and participating in disaster response operations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster cycle services programming, or specific functional activities throughout the assigned geographic area.
  • Assist with the successful implementation of either specific disaster cycle services program activities, or a specific disaster cycle services function within an assigned geographic area.
  • Monitor, collect and analyze business data to improve services to individuals and communities.
  • Engage disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce, and representative of the communities they serve, both culturally and linguistically.
  • Support the development of Disaster Leadership Volunteers, including volunteer partners, to meet specific responsibilities as part of their work in disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery, or specific functional tasks.
  • Participate in disaster response operations in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations, upon completion of training requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with social services or service/program delivery, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Clean Driving Record.
  • Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Develop project plans & budgets.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.
  • Geographic Community Disaster employees are expected to work daily in their assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers.
  • Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at a minimum of once a year.
  • Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment.
