The Blood Collection Staff role involves assisting with every step of the blood collection process including setting up equipment, creating a welcoming environment for donors, and following safety procedures. Paid phlebotomy training is provided with opportunities to grow healthcare skills within the American Red Cross.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process
  • Collaborate with team to transport and setup equipment at collection sites
  • Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors
  • Follow all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations
  • Drive Red Cross vehicles and assist with setup and tear down of equipment at donation sites
  • Work variable schedule including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and possible overnight travel

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required
  • A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required
  • DOT certification is required, you must pass applicable DOT physical and related requirements and be able to possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration
  • Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required
  • Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications
  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) is a competitive advantage
  • Prior leadership experience is a competitive advantage
